This hardwood indoctrination comes courtesy of Jared Lively. I tell people that I'm a writer, but really, I'm a basketball spiritualist. Here are some truths about myself that will draw a silhouette of Jared Lively, the basketball fan.
-I grew up in Southern California and was therefore embedded in Lakerdom. As a result, I hate the Lakers more than I like any other team.
-Philosophically, my favorite player of all-time is Dennis Rodman.
-One of the five most conflicted/tumultuous eras of my life was from 1988 to 1991, when I rooted for the Bulls against my other favorite team, the Pistons, and also my family of Detroit natives.
-The only foreign player I will admit to liking without qualification: Arvydas Sabonis.
-Favorite NBA analysts (not necessarily for their knowledge base): Charles Barkley, Mark Jackson/Jeff Van Gundy (together, not separate), Stephen A. Smith, Reggie Miller, Tom Tolbert
-I appreciated Reggie Miller for how much of a bastard he was, but didn't care about his three-point-making capabilities.
-I appreciate Ray Allen for his role in He Got Game, but don't care about his three-point-making capabilities.
-Favorite players to watch reacting to a foul called on them: Kurt Thomas, Elden Campbell, and Vlade Divac.
-Watching a game on a Fox Sports Net station is as annoying as watching an episode of The Simpsons from season one.
-It angers me that people still know who Steve Kerr is.
-Percentage of NBA players that aren't morons: 8%.
-I felt jealous and resentful towards my girlfriend when I woke up one morning, because I'd had a dream in which she and Gerald Wallace carried on a very sincere, rewarding platonic friendship.
